SNOW HILL — For some senior baseball players, the end of the season represents the final time playing the game at a competitive level.
Greene Central High senior Dylan Benton is grateful he isn’t in that boat after signing to play at Louisburg College on Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s an accomplishment for me because a lot of the guys I know aren’t going to play afterward,” Benton said. “It’s an accomplishment for me and them (family any friends) for me to go play at the next level.”
Benton chose Louisburg over Pitt Community College. The senior catcher liked that he would get to play right away.
“I feel like (Louisburg) would be my best chance to play and get more experience to work at my skills than Pitt,” Benton said. “Pitt told me what would happen there and Louisburg told me what would happen there, and I went to Louisburg and saw their facility and it won me over.”
Greene Central alumnus and Hurricanes head coach Blake Herring gains a player that was a part of the varsity Rams for all four years.
Benton became a starter as a sophomore and saw his batting average improve every season. Benton batted .367 and had 21 RBIs this season while appearing in all 21 games. Benton said he is undecided on his major.
