Southern Nash High placed third among four teams in Thursday’s nine-hole 3-A Big East Conference tune-up match at Happy Valley Country Club.
The Firebirds posted a score of 195 for their low four individuals.
Noah Shealy paced Southern Nash with a 44. Matthew Morgan carded a 49 and coming in with 51s were Ryan Saunders, Bret Barnes and Andy Howard.
Host Fike, despite the absence of senior No. 1 performer and Barton College signee Bryson Boyette, prevailed with a 179 total. Northern Nash finished second at 187, followed by Southern Nash and Rocky Mount (212). Hunt and Nash Central did not participate.
All six league members are expected to show at Happy Valley on Monday for the second of six conference matches. The teams play another league match on Wednesday at The River Golf Course, with Southern Nash the host. That match was postponed by inclement weather Monday.
