STANHOPE — Shawn Trice finished a pass from Adolfo Gonzalez to give host Southern Nash the decisive goal in its 3-2 victory over Fike in Monday’s 3-A Big East Conference varsity boys soccer opener.
The Firebirds, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit, evened their overall record at 4-4-1 while the Golden Demons departed 4-3-2 as their winless streak extended to four matches.
Gonzalez served the assist to Justin Vazquez on the tying goal in the second half after Fike went up 2-1. Vazquez scored on a breakaway for the match’s first goal.

The Firebirds continue Big East play Wednesday at Northern Nash while the Demons, who are 0-2-2 in their last four matches, will host conference newcomer Franklinton at 7 p.m.
