After yet another impressive victory, Southern Nash climbed one spot to No. 9 in the Associated Press 3-A high school football rankings for North Carolina.
The Firebirds, now 4-0 after clobbering host West Johnston 49-0 on Friday, garnered 31 votes as they swapped places with Havelock (4-0), which dropped from ninth to 10th.
The only other difference in the 3-A poll was Eastern Guilford (3-1) falling from fourth to seventh after losing 39-16 to 4-A No. 9 Greensboro Page. Weddington (3-0) moved up a spot to No. 4 while Winston-Salem Mount Tabor (3-1) and Lee County (4-0) also inched up one spot each. Greensboro Dudley (4-0) remained No. 1 in 3-A, one of four teams in the 3-A top 10 that were in the 4-A classification until North Carolina High School Athletic Association realignment earlier this year.
None of the other No. 1 spots changed as Wake Forest (4-0), which will visit Southern Nash on Friday, stayed atop the 4-A rankings as did Shelby (4-0) in 2-A and Tarboro (4-0) in 1-A. The Vikings will play Friday at county rival SouthWest Edgecombe in another rendition of “The Function at the Junction.”
