ZEBULON — Dylan File pitched a season-high eight innings as the Carolina Mudcats opened a three-game Single-A Carolina League series against the Frederick Keys with a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

File (5-4) gave up seven hits, walked none and struck out five in matching his professional career high in innings pitched. Rodrigo Benoit retired all three Frederick batters he faced in the ninth, striking out two, to get his ninth save and preserve the third shutout of the season for the Mudcats (31-25).

Carolina got the only runs it would need on catcher Payton Henry’s two-run double with two outs against Frederick starting pitcher Michael Baumann (1-3).

Frederick (28-27) outhit the Mudcats 7-5 and only stranded 10 base runners to 14 by Carolina.

The series continues Monday with a first-pitch time of 7 p.m.
