Seniors Reily Nelson and Claire Dixon of Fike High and Barrett Davis of North Johnston led a group of 11 players from Wilson Times readership-area schools to earn spots on the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association all-region teams that were announced Monday.
Nelson is a three-time selection while Dixon is a repeat selection on the 3-A All-Region 3 team. Davis landed on the 2-A All-Region 3 unit for the second straight year.
Joining Nelson, who was the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Year and the area’s only NCSCA All-State selection, and Dixon from Fike is senior goalkeeper Jah’Asia Pernell. Hunt was represented by senior midfielder Bailey Hardison, junior midfielder Camille Ruiz and freshman forward Kristen Armstrong. Southern Nash landed freshman goalkeeper Kathryn Robinson, the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, along with freshman forward Jada Zimmerman.
Armstrong led the Lady Warriors with 10 goals while Hardison was the team leader in points with eight goals and a team-high seven assists for 23 points. Ruiz added seven goals and three assists.
Zimmerman scored all four of the Ladybirds’ goals this season.
Earning 2-A All-Region 3 acclaim from North Johnston along with Davis were senior center midfielder Michelle Rodriguez and junior offensive midfielder Maria Teurel.
Davis led the Lady Panthers with 20 goals and six assists as they finished second in the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference. Rodriguez added six goals and Teurel netted four to go with four assists.
Also named to the 2-A All-Region 3 team was senior midfielder Anne Elliott Taylor of Kill Devil Hills First Flight, which won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A championship Saturday. Taylor was a 3-A All-Region 3 pick last year as a junior at Fike.
Athlete nominations for all-region teams must be made by a current NCSCA member coach.
