Fike serves 16 aces to get past Southern Nash

STANHOPE —The visiting Fike High varsity volleyball team served for 16 aces in opening 3-A Big East Conference play with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 conquest of Southern Nash on Tuesday.

The Lady Golden Demons improved to 4-4 overall, while Southern Nash was also starting conference play.

Senior Mason Blake served for five aces for Fike, while senior Katherine Newton and sophomore Reece Nelson contributed four each.

Newton’s eight kills led the Lady Demons, while Nelson provided 14 assists.

“I told the girls to set the tone for our first conference game and to utilize everything we work on,” commented Fike head coach Jaleesa Harper. “We faced a tough nonconference schedule and I know it will help us as we go into the conference.”

The Ladybirds, now 3-7 overall, were led by Amelia Gallina, Olivia Cruz and Lauren Fassnacht with five kills each while Miller Jones served three aces and Lydia Ruffin served five consecutive points.

Fike continues conference play at home against league newcomer Franklinton at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday while Southern Nash visits Northern Nash.

Pate, Lady Cycs clip Faith Christian

Lauren Pate served for seven aces among her 13 points, delivered nine kills and added a block in leading the Community Christian School varsity volleyball team to a 25-5, 25-22, 25-20 victory against Faith Christian on Tuesday.

Anna Jackson responded with 11 points, three aces and six kills. Emily Boyette notched eight points and two assists. Olivia Bullard added six points, an ace and 19 assists. Morgan Garner had two kills, while Erika Vandenbrink amassed 12 service points.

Lady Knights win one, lose one

GOLDSBORO — Greenfield lost in three sets in a varsity volleyball match Tuesday at 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference foe Wayne Christian.

The Lady Knights dropped to 2-10 with the 25-13, 25-15, 25-18 loss.

Sophomore Sumer Hassan led Greenfield with four kills and 15 digs while classmate Mary Margaret Coats registered 10 assists to go with five digs.

The Lady Knights junior varsity squad lost in two sets 25-7, 25-9.

On Monday, Greenfield won in four sets at home against nonconference opponent DASH Homeschool.

Hassan led with 18 service points, 20 digs and five kills while Coats had 15 assists and six service points. Freshman Natalie Diaz came up with six kills and three blocks while sophomore Kaelyn Wall added five kills, five service aces and 10 digs.

The Lady Knights return to action Monday, Sept. 18, at home against Ridgecroft.

WCA 4-0 in region after beating Bethel

KINSTON — Playing without two starters, the Wilson Christian varsity volleyball team didn’t miss a beat Tuesday, sweeping host Bethel Christian 3-0.

The Lady Chargers rose to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A East Region action with the 25-19, 25-23, 25-15 victory.

McKenna Griffin had eight kills, six digs, four aces, two assists and a block for Wilson Christian while Christy Jones contributed six assists, four kills and three aces. Lauren Parker produced 10 assists, two kills and a dig while Tori Linkous came up with five kills and two assists.

Without starters Ashley Hartsfield and Jenna Hunter, WCA head coach Ryan Vanderboegh brought up Kendall Harris after she played in the junior varsity game and she responded with four kills and an ace.

“We’ve got some things to work on, but I’m proud of them,” he said. “They found a way to win.”

Wilson Christian visits Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington for a nonconference match Friday.

Faulkner-led CBA posts league win

DUDLEY — The visiting Charles B. Aycock High varsity volleyball team continued its surge with a 25-13, 25-6, 25-14 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference dismantling of Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

The 3-A Lady Golden Falcons climbed above .500 in the conference at 3-2 and stand 6-3 overall.

Statistical leaders for CBA included senior Arlanda Faulkner with 13 kills and nine aces. Junior Daelyn Brock served for seven aces. Senior Cassandra Lassiter registered 13 digs, while Faulkner and Brock managed eight each. Senior Hannah Carter paced CBA with 24 assists.

Lady Chargers sweep Bethel

KINSTON ­— Wilson Christian posted its eight volleyball win without a loss as the Lady Chargers downed host Bethel Christian 25-11, 25-12 on Tuesday.

Anna Hill served seven aces for Wilson Christian while Madison Carnes made four assists and Kendall Harris was credited with five kills.

The Lady Chargers will travel to Wilmington Cape Fear Academy on Friday.

Lady Falcons fall to Southern Wayne

DUDLEY — The Charles B. Aycock High volleyball team tumbled to a 25-23, 25-18 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference loss Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

The Lady Golden Falcons dipped to 1-4 in the league and to 2-7 overall.

Ashley Dail served for four aces for CBA, while Kaitlyn Smith led with five kills. Digs leaders were Chloe Arterberry with seven and Dail with six. Dail also had four assists.
