Visiting South Brunswick blitzed Fike with 33 shots, including 15 on goal, in a runaway 6-1 win in the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A girls soccer playoffs Tuesday.
The Lady Cougars, the No. 2 3-A team from the 3-A/4-A Mideastern Conference, got two goals each from Alexia Collins and Ava Lechtrecker as they ended the Lady Demons’ season with an 8-9-1 mark.
Sophomore Charly Oldham headed in a shot in the 13th minute for the first goal for South Brunswick (11-8) before Collins finished a cross in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Lechtrecker followed Collins’ second goal early in the second half with two of her own before Carmen Dixon scored off a corner kick to put the Lady Cougars up 6-0 with 2:39 remaining in the match.
Reece Nelson’s goal with 1:46 to play accounted for Fike’s only score.
Fike goalkeeper JahAsia Pernell was credited with 19 saves while the Lady Demons managed 13 shots.
It was the final game for Fike seniors Pernell, Jessa Holyoak and Elizabeth Thompson.
