MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Behind a 4-for-5 showing by catcher Mario Feliciano, the Carolina Mudcats ripped 12 hits, including a pair of homers, to deliver a 7-3 defeat to the host Myrtle Beach Pelicans in the Single-A Carolina League series opener Tuesday night at TicketReturn.com Field.
Feliciano knocked a two-run shot in the seventh inning as he finished with three RBIs while Eddie Silva was 2 for 5 with a solo blast in the fifth, extending Carolina’s homer streak to eight games.
Reliever Matt Smith (1-1), the third Mudcats pitcher, went four innings and gave up two runs on four hits and a walk to get the win.
Tristen Lutz also had two hits for the Mudcats (11-8), who roughed up Myrtle Beach starter Bryan Hudson (1-1) for seven hits. The Pelicans dropped to 6-13.
Game 2 of the three-game series is Wednesday evening at 7:05.
