Feliciano goes long twice in Mudcats’ win

ZEBULON — Mario Feliciano ripped a pair of solo home runs and starter Nelson Hernandez pitched his longest outing of the season as the Carolina Mudcats turned back the Frederick Keys 7-4 in Monday’s Single-A Carolina League game at Five County Stadium.

Feliciano started the second and fourth innings with homers, the second giving Carolina (32-25) a 3-2 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Now with 11 homers, Feliciano leads the Carolina League.

Hernandez (6-3) lasted into the seventh inning before departing with a 5-2 lead. He gave up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six.

Payton Henry and Rob Henry each collected a pair of hits for the Mudcats while Eddie Silva belted a solo homer in the sixth inning.

Reliever Matthias Dietz (1-6) took the loss for the Keys (28-28), who outhit the Mudcats, 10-9.

Carolina will go for the series sweep Tuesday night with the first pitch set for 7.
