Twelve days ago, the Wilson Post 13 American Legion baseball team returned from a nine-day layoff to pummel Farmville Post 151 10-0 in Fleming Stadium.
After Monday’s rematch at Farmville Central High, Post 13 might want to go back on vacation. Post 151 pulled out a 7-3 victory, sending Wilson back to a .500 mark in Area I East Division play and 5-4 overall. Most of the damage inflicted by Farmville came in the form of a three-run home run by shortstop Tyler Horner in the second inning off Wilson starting pitcher Aaron Drake, making the score 4-0.
Wilson crept back in the game with two runs in the top of the third. Dom Gaetano and Trevor Mills drew back-to-back walks to start the rally before Josh Fuller delivered an RBI single to score Gaetano. With one out, Mills raced on Matt Jacobs’ fielder’s-choice grounder.
However, Post 151 got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning and then took a 6-2 lead in the fourth. Post 13 scored again in the sixth when Matt Raynor singled and moved to third on Jaelynn Melton’s double before scooting home on Alston Pittman’s groundout.
Wilson visits Kinston Post 43 on Tuesday at Kinston High, the makeup date for a game that was rained out earlier this month, before hosting Post 43 on Wednesday night in Fleming Stadium.
