The Wilson Youth Soccer Association Explosion dropped a pair of matches Saturday against North Carolina Youth Soccer Association 12U Boys Open East I Division opponents.
The Explosion, now 1-4 in N.C. Youth Soccer Spring Classic League play, lost 2-1 to Onslow County Soccer Association Coastal Crew in Maysville before going to Wilmington where the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Football Club Blue delivered a 7-3 defeat.
In the first match, Coastal Crew led 2-0 before Gustavo Hernandez scored in the 49th minute off a pass from Christopher Rodriguez. The Explosion had several late chances at the tying goal but failed to capitalize.
Ethan Carlyle made 12 saves in goal for Wilson while Jayden Moses blocked four OCSA shots.
Rodriguez gave Wilson a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the sixth minute in Wilmington. The Hammerheads Blue answered with three straight goals before Rodriguez struck again, this time on a cross by Ben Mosley in the 31st minute.
But Wilmington rattled off four consecutive goals before Snyder Pearson finished a pass from Hernandez for the Explosion’s last goal in the 57th minute.
Carlyle came up with 16 saves while defenders Cameron Small and Riley Preble each made two blocks.
The Explosion returns home to Gillette Soccer Complex on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match against North Carolina Football Club ‘07 Red South.
