NASHVILLE — A former detention officer has been arrested and jailed on charges of sneaking cellphones to inmates in the Nash County Detention Center.
Quintin Cardell Higgs, 26, of the 100 block of Biltmore Place, Rocky Mount, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into his conduct that began in April, Chief Deputy Brandon Medina said in a news release. Higgs had been hired in October 2017.
Investigators determined Higgs was smuggling cellphones into the jail with the intent to provide them to at least eight inmates, Medina said.
The sheriff’s office terminated Higgs’ employment and charged him with eight counts of felony giving or selling a phone or electronic device to an inmate.
Higgs was given a $175,000 bond and jailed in an unnamed neighboring county pending his first appearance in Nash County District Court.
