ROCKY MOUNT — Authorities say a 22-year-old Nash County man fatally shot his father Saturday night.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 7200 block of Summerlea Place west of Rocky Mount to what had been reported as an accidental shooting shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found 51-year-old William Marcelus Major deceased due to gunfire, Medina said in a news release.
Investigators identified the man’s son, William Marcellus Major Jr., as the suspect and arrested him on a charge of first-degree murder. Medina said a motive in the killing is unknown.
Major Jr. was booked into the Nash County Detention Center without bond. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
