Fike opened its 2017-18 wrestling season with wins against Bunn and North Lenoir in a tri-match at Hunt

The Golden Demons, who did not compete against their 3-A Big East Conference and county rival Hunt, were impressive in defeating North Lenoir 63-12 and Bunn 60-24.

Against the 2-A Eastern Carolina Conference Hawks, six Golden Demons registered pins. Vincent Page started the match with a 10-3 decision over Christian Quick of North Lenoir at 145 pounds. The Demons then rang up five straight wins by fall — Linton Holmes at 152 in just 19 seconds, followed by Aaron Bancroft (160), Ricardo Escamilla (170), Joseph Speight (182) and Jacob Powell (195) — before the Hawks got their first points.

William Edwards earned a win by fall for Fike while Jahmez Settles, Roby Wood, Taylor Gay and Garrett Weaver picked up forfeit victories. The 138-pound class was a double forfeit.

Fike enjoyed another pin parade against Bunn of the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference with Holmes leading the way at 152 pounds in 40 seconds, followed by Bancroft in 42 seconds at 160. Escamilla (170), Saulo Rodriguez (285), Edwards (120) and Page (145) also notched wins by fall for Fike while Settles and Weaver claimed forfeit victories.

Fike will host its fifth annual Demon Duals on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m., with Hunt, Southern Nash, C.B. Aycock, Clayton, Cleveland, Washington and North Pitt participating.
