GOLDSBORO — The Fike High wrestling team ran its early season dual team record to 10 victories in 11 matches following a 4-1 showing — good enough for third place — at the Sass-Holmes Memorial Duals on Wednesday at Rosewood High.
Fike of the 3-A Big East Conference experienced its only setback at the hands of the host Eagles, who posted a 45-34 victory over the Golden Demons.
Otherwise, it was Fike at the forefront, with the Demons trouncing Clinton 78-6, thumping Richlands 61-18, dispatching Wilmington Laney 54-30 and turning back North Brunswick 54-28.
A trio of Fike wrestlers went 5-0 on the day, with Linton Holmes at 145, Aaron Bancroft at 160 and Joseph Speight at 182, each emerging unscathed through five bouts.
Speight bumped up to 195 against North Brunswick and pinned Carlos Meza 49 seconds into the second period.
Fike is back in action at the Pierce-Davis Memorial Tournament, set for Saturday, Dec. 2 on the campus of North Pitt.
Ten total teams were represented, including Holly Ridge Dixon, Neuse Charter, Pamlico and Smithfield-Selma.
