Four young ladies from Wilson have been chosen to be formally presented at the 92nd annual North Carolina Debutante Ball in Raleigh on Sept. 7.

The traditional event is sponsored by the Terpsichorean Club, which includes young men from the Raleigh area.

Debutantes from Wilson are Grayson Victoria Ferrell, Anna Merritt Hauser, Carrington Anne Metts and Logan Aycock Walston.

Grayson Victoria Ferrell is the daughter of Charlotte Vick of Wilson and Dwayne Ferrell of Walstonburg. She is the granddaughter of Jerome and Diane Vick of Wilson and Danny and Debra Whitley of Sims. She studies agribusiness management at North Carolina State University.

Anna Merritt Hauser is the daughter of Mary Romaine “Robin” Hauser of Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Hauser of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Romaine Clark Woodard of Wilson and Gail Hauser of Raleigh and the late J. Lee Hauser. Anna Merritt is a sophomore at Meredith College majoring in diet and nutrition with a minor in Spanish. Her mother made her debut in 1986. Grandmother Romaine Clark Woodard was an assistant leader in 1966, and aunt Anderson Peters Griffin made her debut in 1988.

Carrington Anne Metts is the daughter of Jobe Coy Metts III and Margaret Cabell Metts of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Wall Cabell of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Frances Kelly Metts of Wilmington and the late Jobe Coy Metts Jr. She attends the College of William and Mary where she is a Monroe Scholar pursuing a double major in physics and Hispanic studies. She serves as a representative on the STEM panel for admissions at William and Mary and is involved in mentoring and tutoring physics students.

Logan Aycock Walston is the daughter of John Hearn Walston and Janice Walston of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dale Aycock of Wilson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cozart Walston. She attends Wilson Community College and plans to attend Barton College in the spring. Other members of Logan’s family who made their debut include sister Mary Katherine Walston Martin, grandmother Inza Bell Walston and aunts Tracy Walston Blair and Inza Bell Walston.

TIES TO WILSON

In addition to the Wilson debutante representatives, there are a number debutantes from other areas have Wilson ties including Mable Elizabeth Blount, Elizabeth Holt Browning, Eleanor Clark Burcham, Hadley Blake Daniel (Blake), Elizabeth Ann Krause, Sarah Haywood Langston, Stewart Elizabeth Morse, Virginia Thorne Pace, Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Smith, Lucy York Wyche and Sara Bondurant Young.

Mable Elizabeth Blount is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Little Blount Sr. of Greenville and the granddaughter of Sarah Hogle Barnes and the late William Bark Grine.

Elizabeth Holt Browning is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Holt Browning of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Mable Taylor Hesmer and the late Theodore Casper Hesmer Jr.

Eleanor Clark Burcham is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott Creighton of Edenton and David Wesley Burcham of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas Stronach III.

Hadley Blake “Blake” Daniel is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Taylor Daniel of Clinton and the granddaughter of Betsy Miller Blake and the late Walter Woodard Blake.

Elizabeth Ann Krause is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Charles Krause Jr. of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Robert Samuel Flippin Jr. and the late Linda Leigh Flippin.

Sarah Haywood Langston is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dortch Langston III of Raleigh and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitworth Cunningham.

Stewart Elizabeth Morse is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael David Morse of Raleigh and the granddaughter of Samuel Preston Douglas Jr. and the late Gail Barksdale Douglas.

Virginia Thorne Pace of Virginia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Downing Taylor Pace of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Hester Gregory Kirkham and the late Thorne Gregory.

Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Adam Smith III of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Suzanne Holdford of Wilson and the late James Edward Holdford.

Lucy York Wyche is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Hunter Wyche Jr. of Raleigh and the granddaughter of Betty Jo Mercer Grady and the late Roland Augustus Grady Jr.

Sara Bondurant Young is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Beauregard Young IV of Greenville and the granddaughter of Ann Bondurant Young and the late William Beauregard Young III.

The debutante ball was formed by the Terpsichorean Club to present many of North Carolina’s prominent young ladies and to honor their families in recognition of their contributions to the state.
