Jeremiah Deans posted a double-double to lead the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf varsity boys basketball to a 56-24 win Thursday over visiting North Carolina School for the Deaf.

Deans had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists while Alfonza Robinson contributed 13 points, six steals and three assists. Neheim Carlton added 12 points and five steals for the Hornets, who were facing several of their teammates from the North Carolina Schools for the Deaf combined eight-player football team comprised of players from ENCSD and NCSD.

“I guess it is ironic and a bit strange that most of these guys were working together as a team, winning a football game on Saturday and four days later they are opponents on the basketball court,” surmised ENCSD football coach and athletic director Leonard Baker. “Both teams played hard with much respect for each other.”
