Mike Darne claimed his first Late Model Stock Car points championship at Southern National Motorsports Park in grand style on Saturday as the Concord resident won both of the season-ending twin 75-lap races on the asphalt oval.
Darne needed to win both to edge Oxford’s Terry Dease for the points crown. Darne posted a total of 244 points in seven races to finish seven points ahead of Dease, who was the runner-up in the second LMSC race.
Melvin Langley, who was fourth out of four cars in both races Saturday, was third in the points race.
Andrew Grady won both the Limited Late Models 40-lap events Saturday, securing his points lead by 10 over Chris Chapman.
Grady can claim the LLM title Saturday, Oct. 13, as K&N Filters Championship night concludes with titles being decided in LLM, Chargers, Mini-Stock, Bandoleros and Any Car divisions in the annual SNMP Spooktacular Weekend.
