The SouthWest Edgecombe High boys and North Johnston girls extended their stays in their respective 2-A Eastern Plains Conference basketball tournaments Monday night.

SouthWest Edgecombe, the No. 3 seed, moved forward with a 61-52 victory in Pinetops over No. 6 North Johnston and will travel to No. 2 Nash Central in Wednesday’s semifinal. The Cougars climbed above the .500 mark overall at 13-12, while North Johnston ends its season at 7-16.  The other boys semifinal sends No. 5 North Pitt to Farmville Central after the Panthers defeated No. 4 Beddingfield, 85-83 in other quarterfinal action Monday.

In the girls’ bracket, No. 4 North Johnston squeaked into the semifinals with a 44-43 conquest of No. 5 Beddingfield in Bethel on the campus of North Pitt High. That earns the Lady Panthers (14-9) a Wednesday semifinal date at undefeated Farmville Central. SouthWest Edgecombe, the No. 2 seed in the girls bracket, opposes No. 3 North Pitt on the neutral floor of Nash Central on Wednesday after North Pitt blitzed No. 6 Nash Central by a 73-43 score in the other EPC girls quarterfinal.

Beddingfield ends their season with a 5-17 record.
