A meeting for prospective poll monitors who work to protect voters’ rights at polling places on Election Day is planned from 4 - 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 in the Wilson County Public Library assembly room, 249 Nash St.

Backpack giveaway planned Friday

N.C. Love in Action, 238 N. Tarboro St., will give away backpacks beginning at noon Friday, Aug. 17. All bags will have supplies included. They are donated by M.D. Edger Associates and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Church to give away backpacks Saturday

Patterson Chapel Church located on Forest Hills Road will give away backpacks beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 and continuing until they are gone.

Woodard to kick off sheriff campaign

Sheriff Calvin L. Woodard Jr. invites Wilson County residents to his 2018 campaign kickoff from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Woodard for Sheriff campaign headquarters, 1435 Ward Blvd. in the former Parkwood Mall. Voters are invited to enjoy food and fellowship.

Homeschoolers plan school year kickoff

Christian Homeschoolers of Wilson will hold a back-to-school kickoff 6 -8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, 5843 Shiloh Church Road. Alumni to host end-of-summer party

The C.H. Darden Alumni Association Faithful Brothers of Wilson will host their end-of-summer all-white party from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. The cost is $15 per person. All proceeds support local scholarships, building fund and community initiatives.

Fair plans annual senior day
