Wilson Community College and Wilson County Schools will hold the “Connections to Your Future” Career and College Showcase from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 27 at WCC’s Frank L. Eagles Community Business Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The showcase highlights career and technical programs at the college and connects high school pathways to higher education and employment opportunities. The event will feature local employers, businesses and industries to show how high school and college lead to careers.

Participants can visit the new Lee Technology Center to see state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the applied engineering and automotive programs. Attendees who explore all of the program opportunities will be entered in a drawing for a free college class. For more information, call Trish Holsten at 252-291-1195.

Democratic Party to meet Saturday

The Wilson County Democratic party will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Wilson County Public Library, 249 Nash St. This is a county executive meeting, but all Democrats and unaffiliated voters are invited to attend.

Junior historians seek new members

KINSTON — The Tar Heel Junior Historian chapter will hold an interest meeting for prospective new members from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 20 at the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center, 100 N. Queen St.

The group’s purpose is to encourage the study of local and state history and help young people better understand and appreciate their place in history.

‘The Shack’ author to speak in Bailey

BAILEY — Wayne Jacobsen, co-author of Christian book “The Shack,” author of “He Loves Me!” and “Finding Church” and a contributor to The God Journey podcast will hold a public conversation from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Bailey Cafe, 12544 Hanover St.

Church to hold men’s prayer breakfast

FREMONT — Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church will have a men’s brotherhood prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. Deacon Otis Weaver will be the guest speaker.

Gospel concert slated for Feb. 10

The Odelle W. Barnes Center for Community Services and the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority’s Gamma Beta Omega chapter will present a Taste of Gospel Music featuring the N.C. Central University Gospel Choir at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at DelMastro Auditorium on the campus of Wilson Community College, 902 Herring Ave.
