The Wilson County Republican Party is mixing up the entertainment for this year’s oyster roast fundraiser.

“This is the first year with a comedian,” said Christy Fyle, chairwoman of the Wilson County GOP.

The fundraiser has featured live music in the past, but officials decided Jerry Carroll, a comedian from Willow Springs, was the right fit for this year’s entertainment.

The fun kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Scott Farms where Keyzer’s Seafood and Parker’s Barbecue will be served to hundreds of Wilsonians. Coastal Beverages also will be on-hand to serve drinks for the $50 ticketed event.

“This is year is probably more important than an election year because we’re getting ready for next year’s election,” Fyle said. “This is one of the only, if not the only, fundraiser for next year’s election in terms of printed materials, headquarters and more.”

Fyle said the fundraising goal is $10,000 for the eighth annual event. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite or by calling 252-399-9937.

“It is a very casual night where you get to meet candidates and elected officials on a more personal basis instead of just listening at a speaking event,” Fyle said. “Plus you’re supporting the local party and enjoying some time together with other conservatives.”

The 2016 oyster roast featured brief remarks from Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, U.S. Rep. George Holding, state GOP Vice President Michele Nix and numerous local and state office-seekers.
