A Downtown Christmas includes three days of holiday events including a tree-lighting ceremony, a parade and plenty of fun for the kids.
Events started Friday when Mayor Bruce Rose carried out a longtime Wilson tradition by lighting the Christmas tree on the courthouse square. The mood was even more festive with holiday music by local children in the Whirli Kidz choir, directed by Jana Winders.
When the tree-lighting ceremony ended, more free fun began. Families visited Santa in his village on the courthouse plaza, took wagon rides and participated in arts and crafts at Imagination Station. Stores were open for holiday shopping, and some restaurants served food. Food trucks were set up at Tarboro and Nash streets.
