Fire Chief Van B. Etheridge was my father’s best friend. We were neighboring this last year as we renovated our family home around the corner from Van and June’s house. Over a year ago, June and I would laugh at all the old times, and Van and I would wonder if the fire department museum would be complete before we both went to heaven.
Van was a true fireman of the old school long before all this safety equipment became standard. I remember him driving and working on those now “old” trucks parked inside Firehouse No. 1.
Van and June now watch over us all and all the firefighters who built this place called Wilson into a safer haven to live and work and play. God bless you, Van.
