KINSTON — Junior Brice Murray had a pair of first-half goals, and classmate Zach Hunter tacked on another in the 50th to lead the Wilson Christian varsity boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Kinston Bethel Christian on Tuesday.
WCA moved to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A District 3 ranks. The Chargers visit Fuquay-Varina Hilltop Christian on Friday and complete a suspended game with Raleigh Friendship Christian on Monday to end the regular season. WCA trails Friendship 2-1 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
Hunter, who assisted on both Murray goals, provided his assists in the 4th and 32nd minutes. Junior Evan Wright found Hunter for the finish 10 minutes into the second half.
WCA outshot Bethel 20-7, while sophomore keeper Harrison Parker had five saves in notching the shutout.
Head coach Don Samson credited the solid defensive play of seniors Jay Grissom and Josiah McClanahan in the win.
Bethel dropped to 7-8, 4-6 within region play. The game was a makeup from a previously scheduled date, which was moved due to rain.
