“Oh” what a beautiful evening.
Friday evening finds us at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center anticipating the opening of ACT For Youth’s presentation of “Oklahoma!” The lights grow dim, the curtain opens and a pure voice is heard with a most beautiful solo of “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”as Curly enters from the rear of the theater and climbs to the stage.
It only gets better from there. The singing, and acting was at a professional level, the dancing was superb.
Bravo to the entire cast for a spectacular performance. Hats off to director David Winstead for his vision and execution, music director Corey Whaley for the smooth integration of music and voice, choreographer Patricia Bradshaw for the magnificent dance routines, Elizabeth Winstead as accompanist and voice coach, and the entire ACT For Youth technical crew for handling every aspect of the performance.
I urge everyone far and near not to miss the final three days of this performance — this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
