State troopers say a driver suffered minor injuries after the vehicle she was in struck a bear on U.S. 264 early Monday morning.
The woman was traveling west on U.S. 264 — about a half-mile east of N.C. 58 — when a bear appeared in the road, according to Trooper Chris Martin of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Martin said the driver suffered minor injuries when her airbags deployed. He said she was treated at the scene.
The bear didn’t survive the impact.
“It wasn’t very big,” Martin said. “It was about 120 pounds if I had to guess.”
The incident occurred around 4 a.m.
The Eash Nash Volunteer Fire Department and Wilson County EMS also responded to the scene. East Nash firefighters posted photos of the car’s crumpled front end and the bear carcass on the department’s Facebook page Monday afternoon.
