GREENVILLE — Beddingfield High completed its appearance in the Pitt County Classic Easter baseball tournament with a 1-1 record Monday.

The Bruins of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference rallied to a 4-3 triumph against Bertie on Saturday, but lost 21-1 to 3-A Havelock on Monday. Beddingfield exited with a 6-4 overall record.

Against Bertie, the Bruins trailed 2-0 going into the sixth inning. Beddingfield forged a 2-2 tie in the sixth on Tyler Godwin’s two-run single and seized a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh on Alston Pittman’s two-run single.

However, the Bruins did not secure the victory until the Falcons pushed across a run on two hits and two walks in the bottom of the seventh. With the potential winning runner on base, Pittman, a senior left-hander, posted his third strikeout of the inning.

Pittman preserved the win for junior right-hander Austin Slate, who allowed seven hits, one earned run and three walks in six innings while striking out six.

Slate and Godwin each collected two hits for Beddingfield, as did Alvin Cottle and Jarrett Burton for the Falcons.
