AHOSKIE — Despite playing much better defense Friday than it had the previous two games, the Greenfield varsity baseball continues to look for its first 2017 win after a 7-3 loss at Ridgecroft.
The Knights (0-4), who had committed 16 errors in their last two outings, made just one miscue Friday. However, Greenfield, which outhit the Rams 7-5, struggled to bring in runners on base, stranding eight.
Cedric Kirby, Gabe Torres and Ty Weatherford had two each of Greenfield’s seven hits. Torres drilled a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Kirby took the loss on the mound, giving up five runs, but only three earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out two in five innings.
The Knights will open 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference play at home Thursday against Community Christian.
