Benton, Rams blank North Pitt, 12-0

GREENVILLE — Junior Dylan Benton hurled a two-hit shutout and his offense pounded out 12 hits in Greene Central’s 12-0, five-inning rout of North Pitt in opening-day action in the Pitt County Easter Tournament in Guy Smith Stadium on Saturday.

The Rams of the 2-A Eastern Carolina Conference hiked their record to 7-3 and welcome 3-A D.H. Conley in tournament action at noon Monday in Guy Smith Stadium.

The Panthers of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference tumbled to 6-6.

Benton allowed on a pair of singles and two walks while striking out eight.

Senior Jackson Batchelor triggered the offense with a 4-for-4 showing that included a double, three runs scored and three driven in. 

Junior Jalen Conner and senior Justin Vandiford each rapped two hits. Conner doubled twice. Senior Levi Jones slugged a home run and drove in four runs.

Greene Central plated at least one run in each of its five at-bats.
