Beddingfield’s Matt Ellis fired his career-low round of 6-over-par 78 to finish second in the second of six 2-A Eastern Plains Conference boys golf matches on Thursday at Wedgewood Public Golf Course, Ellis’ home course.
Jones finished two shots behind Washington junior Van Staalduinen in leading the Bruins to a tie for fourth place in the six-team field.
Staalduinen was joined by two teammates among the top 10 individuals as Washington padded its conference lead with a 339 total for its four low individuals. The Pam Pack’s Blake Parker tied for sixth with an 84, while Tony Lovenberg finished eighth with an 86.
North Johnston placed second at 369, followed by Farmville Central (382), Beddingfield and SouthWest Edgecombe (399) and North Pitt (432).
Along with Ellis’ 78, the Bruins counted a 95 from Jon Bottoms, an 107 from Dylan Pollock and an 119 from Tyler Bissette.
Pacing the runner-up Panthers were JoJo Richardson with an 81 and Cameron Paige with an 83.
Matt Jones posed the low round of 91 for SouthWest.
The third conference match is scheduled for Monday at Maccripine Country Club with SouthWest Edgecombe as the host
