Beddingfield conquers South Creek 11-1

ROBERSONVILLE — Now, the real tests for the Beddingfield High varsity baseball team begin.

The Bruins completed their final tuneup for 2-A Eastern Plains Conference play in style Friday afternoon, pounding out 12 hits and finishing a season sweep of Robersonville South Creek with an 11-1 victory in six innings.

Beddingfield, winners in six of seven games, begins EPC play Monday night at North Pitt.

“We’re improving and it’s going to be tough,” Beddingfield head coach Noah Edens said. “The conference games are going to be tougher, but we’re going to continue to try to improve and get ready for the conference.”

Beddingfield produced a three-run second inning, highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from freshman Will Cranford and senior Christian Wilson. Leading 3-1 in the fifth, Beddingfield hastened enforcement of the 10-run rule with a five-run fifth and three more runs in the sixth. Freshman Rio Montes laced a two-run single in the fifth, and junior Austin Worley tacked on an RBI single of his own.

Junior Alston Pittman, who finished 4 for 4, smashed a two-run double in the sixth.

Sophomore Austin Slate, a right-hander, worked five innings for his third victory and yielded all three South Creek hits. He struck out six and walked two, and the 1-A Two Rivers Conference Cougars were held to an unearned run in the second. Pittman tossed the sixth inning for Beddingfield.

Luke Cooper was 2 for 3 to lead South Creek (2-5).
