Barton duo named CC Players of the Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A pair of Barton College tennis players swept through the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honors for their stout play on the court last week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Senior Marissa Stevenson garnered the honor for the second-straight week after going 2-0 at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles competition for the Lady Bulldogs at the City of Florence Invitational. Stevenson remains undefeated on the young season, carrying Barton to the consolation championship match for the weekend.

Men’s tennis player James Kelly was named the top male tennis player in the conference after leading the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish at the same event, held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Center in City of Florence Invitational held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Center in South Carolina.

Kelly captured a pair of singles victories and was on the winning No. 3 doubles team for Barton. 

The Barton women’s tennis team will host Meredith in its 2020 home opener Thursday at 3 p.m., while the men’s team will travel to Sumpter, S.C. to play Augusta on Saturday at a to be determined time.
