MURFREESBORO — The visiting Barton College men’s soccer team yielded a goal within three minutes of the start of each half in dropping a 3-1 NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas decision to regonally ranked Chowan University on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs plunged to 0-6-1 in the conference and to 2-9-1 overall. Chowan, ranked No.7 in the Southeast Region in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association poll, improved to 3-1-2 in the league and to 7-2-2 overall. The Hawks boosted their home record to 6-0-1 and are 5-0-1 in their last six matches.

Barton netted its goal in the 67th minute when Tolly Beatson curled a free kick from 24 yards out past Chowan goalkeeper Elliot Chadderton and inside the left post. The goal was the third of the season for Beatson, a junior.

Chowan struck with just two minutes, 18 seconds elapsed. Terell Williamson converted a cross from right wing Mike Dowling. Just 3:04 into the second half, Williamson drove the left side and fired a cross into the box for Carl Kennedy. Kennedy beat senior Barton keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik inside the left post.

The Hawks’ lead became 3-0 some five minutes later. Williamson again scored, giving the senior four goals in four career matches against Barton.
