Ashenfelter’s last-second goal lifts Barton over Ohio Valley

Sophomore attacker Kayli Ashenfelter scored with one second remaining Thursday afternoon to lift the Lady Bulldogs to a thrilling 14-13 victory over Ohio Valley at Electric Supply Company Field.

Barton of Conference Carolinas improved to 5-2 behind Ashenfelter, who notched a game-high seven goals and three assists. Her game winner came on a free-position shot as Ashenfelter netted her team-leading 25th goal.

Sophomore Angelina Scarpa had four goals and three assists as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on their new synthetic turf field home.

Ohio Valley (2-1) of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference rallied from a 9-5 halftime deficit to tie it prior to Ashenfelter’s game winner. Barton won despite being outshot 34-24. Sophomore Katherine Mattena made 15 saves in goal for Barton. 

Taylor Baker’s six goals led the Scots.

Barton remains home to face Limestone on Saturday at noon.
