AREA ROUNDUP: Wall’s 21 kills power Greenfield 5-set win vs. Ridgecroft

Behind a monster performance by senior Kaelyn Wall, the Greenfield School varsity volleyball team emerged the victor in a five-set match at home against Ridgecroft on Wednesday afternoon.

Wall smashed down 21 kills to go with four blocks as the Lady Knights rallied to win the last two sets in the 21-25, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21, 15-6 win.

Senior Caroline Stone supplied eight service aces and five kills while Riya Patel had five aces and three kills. Gabrielle Vester recorded seven kills and Jeallen Holland doled out 17 assists to go with nine aces. Lauren Coats contributed four kills and two aces while Ysabella Saldi came up with 10 assists.

The Lady Knights, now 2-4, will visit Community Christian at the Peace Church gym on Thursday.


Alvarez’s 4 goals spark Knights past Rams

AHOSKIE — Junior Jeremy Alvarez scored four goals and added an assist for the Greenfield varsity boys soccer team as the Knights won 9-0 at Ridgecroft on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory was the second by that score in as many days for the Knights, who rose to 9-1-1 while the Rams fell to 3-3.

Alvarez finished a pass from Zeke Ferrell, who had three assists, for the game’s first goal in the 17th minute. After Will Powell notched the first of his two goals in the 22nd minute, Alvarez finished a run through several defenders for a 3-0 lead.

Alvarez then fed Powell for a 37th-minute goal before Sebastian Partida Jr. connected for the fifth goal of the first half off a Powell assist.

Alvarez picked up where he left off in the second half with a goal through the Rams goalkeeper’s legs off a pass from Eli Ferrell. Jake Flaherty connected for a goal in the 53rd minute on Zeke Ferrell’s third assist before Alvarez dropped off a pass to Matt Kirby, who finished in the 54th minute.

Alvarez then drilled in the mercy rule-triggering ninth goal on a pass from Powell in the 55th.

The Knights posted an overwhelming advantage, 28-4, in shots and took five corner kicks to none by Ridgecroft.

Greenfield will host Fayetteville Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
