Wilson Co. Jr. Golf tournament set for July 24-26

The 39th annual Larry Pittman Memorial Wilson County Junior Golf Championship will be held Monday-Wednesday, July 24-26.

All Wilson County residents who have not reached their 19th birthday by midnight, July 23, are eligible. As has been the practice in the past, there is no entry fee. The July 24 first round will be hosted by Happy Valley Country Club, with the second round to be played at Willow Springs Country Club. The final round, Wednesday, July 26, will be contested at Wedgewood Public Golf Course.

Entry forms are now available at each of the participating courses and online at www.leaguelineup.com/wcjga.

The WCJGA will host a fundraiser Wednesday, July 19, from 6-9 p.m. at Pup’s Steakhouse. A portion of the proceeds from each check will go to the Wilson County Junior Golf Association and all present and former WCJGA members and family members are urged to dine at Pup’s that evening to help raise money.

Stephen Satterly, a former state champion at Hunt High who went on to play at East Carolina University, will be the guest speaker at this year’s post-tournament banquet, to be held at Wedgewood.

High, McGuire set pace at Wilson Ladies League

Enduring the heat, Willow Springs Country Club golfers Dorothy High and Sue McGuire each posted rounds of 84 over the par 36-35—71 Willow Springs layout to pace the field in the July outing of the Wilson Ladies Golf League.

McGuire won the card playoff and earned low gross in the first flight. McGuire settled for low net with a 69.

In the second flight, Sallie Kearns of Wedgewood Public Golf Course carded an 88 for low gross and Lois Edwards of Willow Springs claimed low net with a 59.

Cathy Causway of Happy Valley Country Club emerged the overall low putts victor, requiring 30 putts.

The next outing is scheduled for Aug. 1 at Wedgewood.
