Kathryn Thompson Barnes of Wilson celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 14 at a celebration with family and friends.

Mrs. Barnes graduated from C.L. Coon High School and the Women’s College at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was married to Jesse Norris Barnes Jr. and had four children, Beth Bryan, J. Norris Barnes III, Kathryn Barnes Martone and R.T. “Tank” Barnes; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Wilson County Club for many years and golf club champion for several years. She is affiliated with Elm City United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Barnes was born Jan. 14, 1917 in Wilson.
