‘04 Explosion captures division title

The Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘04 Explosion completed an unbeaten season in North Carolina Youth Soccer Association Fall Classic League play with a 9-0 conquest of Clinton Soccer Club.

The ‘04 Explosion finished atop the 14U Boys Second Division East 1 standings as they scored 32 goals and gave up just one all season in posting eight shutouts.

Team members include Walker Barnes, Oc Bolt, Will Braswell, Christian Chavez, Cesar Garcia, Ben Guthrie, Nick Halverson, Nathan Lozevski, Kevin Moran, Ramiro Rangel, Miguel Rodriguez-Aguilera, Mason Ross, Jonathan Sanchez, Taylor Sullivan and Devin Whitehead.

“Fantastic job to these boys and hats off to their hard work and commitment,” coach Chad Halverson said. “It paid off with a near-perfect run this fall. We are extremely proud of this whole team and their team-first mentality.

“It takes an entire team to have a run like this and we are extremely proud of this group.”


The WYSA ‘06 Explosion won their last six matches to finish 7-1-1 and put themselves in position to win the 12U Boys Second Division East 1, pending the outcome of the final three matches of Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Football Club White (5-0-1)

The Explosion defeated Tar River Youth Soccer Association 4-0 on Sept. 29 and then got past Burlington Soccer Club 5-2 on Sept. 30 before concluding their season with wins Friday and Sunday against North Carolina Football Club Grey South 8-1 and 4-1.

In the four-game run, Gustavo Hernandez scored 10 goals and had one assist while Christopher Rodriguez netted six goals and distributed four assists. Snyder Pearson had two goals and an assist and Ethan Carlyle made four assists. Also scoring for Wilson were Riley Preble, Charles Thomas and Connor Ferguson. Ben Mosley had an assist on the final goal of the season.

Carlyle and Henry Daniels split time in goal while Jay Misback, Angel Rodriguez, Cameron Small, James Thomas, Preble and Mosley led the defense.

The team was coached by Harrison Lamm and Brent Pearson.
